Bambay Gueej

From an African point of view, former Parisian session musician Cheikh Lô may be channeling the music of Burkina Faso, Niger and Mali on "Bambay Gueej" (Bamba, Ocean of Peace).

From a Western perspective, Lô transcends genres by fusing reggae beats, Cuban son, and percolating m'balax rhythms with an unmistakable James Brown swing. This Senegalese sensation has collaborated with a who's who of world-class musicians: Bigga Morris (Aswad), Oumou Sangare, Pee Wee Ellis (James Brown and Van Morrison) and Cuban flautist Richard Egües.

Produced by Youssou N'Dour and Nick Gold and featuring the sweet voice of Cheikh Lô, "Bambay Gueej" should be the critics' choice from dusty Dakar to tumultuous New York.
